HISTORY

Onion Man Productions was first formed in Chicago in 2003 for the
purpose of producing new plays. The first public venture for the company
was in October 2003.  This effort produced two staged readings of the
play,
The Secret of the Cat by James Beck.  The two readings concluded
a workshop, rehearsal period with director Greg Gerhard.

In 2004, the creator of Onion Man Productions,
James Beck, relocated to
Atlanta.  Onion Man was dissolved as an entity in the state of Illinois. In
2008, OMP began a new life back home in Georgia.  The organization is
now incorporated with the state of Georgia as a non-profit corporation.
The company is filing for tax-exempt status with the IRS as a 501(c)(3).
All donations to the organization are tax-deductible.
MISSION

The mission of the company
is to produce new plays that
are grounded in good
storytelling and construction,
but also, writing that explores
the larger questions of life.
The company will produce
writers who are passionate
about their work, but also,
understand that meaningful
work always reaches beyond
the artist’s singular
perspective.  In 2010, in
addition to developing new
plays for American theater,
Onion Man Productions
plans to begin developing
screenplays.
PHILOSOPHY

In addition to producing new plays, a primary purpose of the organization
is to support other art and charitable organizations. In working to help
other organizations reach their goals, OMP puts in practice the philosophy
that artistic expression reaches its full potential when the work not only
expresses the artist but also serves a larger idea.
