Melissa has been active in the Atlanta acting community since 2009 when she auditioned for and was accepted into the Master Class at The Company Acting Studio acting conservatory. She has performed in several plays at The Company's Studio Theatre including Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors, Alan Ball's Five Women Wearing the Same Dress and as Mrs. VanBuren in Intimate Apparel. She also directed her first full length play, Collected Stories, at The Studio Theatre as well as serving as assistant director and stage manager on other productions. She served as The Studio Theatre manager for the 2011-2012 Season.
During the 2015-2016 theatre season she played Joe in Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean at Lionheart Theatre as well as playing Carol in Laura King's original holiday play Harmony Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary Christmas Jubilee also at Lionheart and for which she earned a Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award. She was thrilled to be a part of Onionman Productions Summer Harvest series this last summer and is honored and excited to be an Onionman Resident Artist. Melissa is working on her first full length play.
Melissa has also worked in film, winning the Charleston International Film Festival's Best Actress award for her work in Tim Glover's 1000 Blisters as well as having her film This is a Test, which she cowrote and coproduced with Whitney Christopher be a chosen film for the Charleston International Film Fest for 2014. This is a Test also won the Atlanta Shorts Festival Best Local Film that year.
Melissa owns a production company with her husband Jeff and is looking forward to coproducing Patrick Marber's play Closer on the Onionman stage in February of 2017. She has two amazing, talented lovely daughters who make her proud every day and has been married to her fabulous husband for 26 years.
